Garbage bags are essential for your home and kitchen. They are used to move the garbage generated in your home during a day’s time. The best garbage bags are those that are heavy duty and can withstand certain degree of weight without ripping or tearing.
There are several qualities of garbage bags available in the market. Some bags come with additional features like drawstrings to close the mouth of the bag, while others are simple bags that are highly durable. High quality garbage bags should also be able to withstand sharp objects that are occasionally thrown in garbage like a broken mug.
We did some research and have prepared a list of the best heavy duty garbage bags available in the market. These garbage bags have been reviewed for their features, durability, strength; odor blocking feature, ability to be recycled and their price. Between the various garbage bags that you will test, you can see price is not a determining factor. However, strength of the bag or the weight that it can withstand without tearing or ripping is more important.

These are, obviously, more expensive than regular trashbags. But we used them for moving, and with the exception of a few carpet tacks that poked through, these bags really lived up to their claim. Jagged, broken wood pieces, nails, staples, metal strips, large pieces of cardboard, miscellaneous construction debris… These performed far better than I expected them to. I was prepared to give them a lot of leeway considering what I was shoving in them, but they didn’t need it. They stretched until they were see-through in some spots, but did not tear. Then we filled these with all sorts of stuff with pointy edges (toys, board games, kitchenware/appliances, etc) for a trip to Goodwill, and they performed there, too. The bags were heavy, and still did not tear. We didn’t carry the bags around by the handles for long, but we did some lifting, and the handles held up as well.I don’t know what these are made of. I probably don’t want to know; it’s probably something scary. I just know you won’t need the 100% money-back guarantee.

After Hurricane Sandy hit the NYC area, my backyard was covered with debris, leaves, twigs, branches, and some of everything else that the wind carried into my yard. I used these bags to do some deep backyard cleaning. What I love about these bags is that the twigs and branches I placed in them did not rip through the bag. They held up pretty well, especially after the garbage men came and was dragging several of the bags through the streets to their truck. No rips, no tears and definitely no worries about cleaning up the mess some of these garbage men leave behind. When I run out, I plan to get more. There are two contractor bags that I can 100% depend upon to do a good job here on Amazon and depending upon which one is on sale at the time, that’s what I usually would order. The only thing that separate these bags from the other I like is that this one has tie flaps which makes it easier to tie the bag after it gets full. It can be pretty tough trying to tie a contractor bag because of the thickness, but no worries here.

I used the 30 gal. bags for my cat litter boxes. Litter box liners are ludicrously expensive and are much thinner plastic than these Hefty garbage bags. My cat litter pans measure 22″ L x 18″ W x 6.5″ H (the jumbo size box from Petco). I just slip the litter box into the trash bag, pull the drawstring a bit and push out the air pockets, then pour the litter in. Since the plastic is stronger, I find that it doesn’t tear nearly as easily as actual litter box liners (including when scooping out the deposits with a plastic scooper). When I do a full change of litter, I just pull the litter box out of the bag, and then even if the side of the bag that was inside the box is ripped, the other side of the bag that was sitting underneath the pan has no rips, so I can just fold it up over onto itself and not worry about spilling litter anywhere on the way to the trash can. These bags are fantastic for litter boxes, and much cheaper than actual litter box liners. With 3 cats and 3 litter boxes, it adds up to a lot of savings!

- Heavy duty bag for all uses
- Made from 90 percent recycled material
- Professional quality
- Made in America
- Measures 48-inches length by 33-inches width by 3 mil thick
Now THIS is the kind of bag you need for outdoor work, when you are bagging small branches and other pokey sharp-edged things. It is twice as thick as the heavy Glad and Hefty bags, and four times as thick as their standard large bags. I have one suggestion for people who use this size bag. Get the nylon electrical cord binders and use them to seal the top of the bag. They are far more secure than wire and paper twist ties, and far easier to apply.

I have a trash compacter in my kitchen. The bags that are recommended by the manufacturer are insanely expensive. I’ve tried several other supposedly strong bags as a substitute to the ones the manufacturer recommends. None of them compare to the Hefty Steelsak trash bags. The others rip when he compacter depresses the trash. The others leak, and cause unnecessary cleanup. These Hefty Steelsak bags are strong, sized well, and hold up to repeated compressions. I highly recommend them for this and any other heavy duty trash needs.

These garbage bags were awesome! The price itself was a steal as we found it to be the cheapest on Amazon. These garbage bags were a lifesaver for our rainy camping trip. It held all of our gear well and it was waterproof! The only time the bag ripped was when we had to put our firewood in there, which is expected; other than that, it kept our gear dry! The bag size is large and very durable. We’ve not used this for its main purpose yet, but I have no doubt that it would not fail us either. I recommend these over expensive wet bags, for those considering camping. And because it’s waterproof (meaning no holes in the bag), it would make a good garbage bag that can hold not just dry trash but also wet trash (such as unfinished drinks).

- Kirkland Signature 42-Gallon Heavy Duty Contractor Clean Up Bags – 32 Count
I really like these bags. We purchased them when we did a big move and needed to throw out a ton of things. They are strong and hold well. If you are doing some heavy duty spring cleaning – I would definitely recommend the bags. However, this was one of the few times when something took forever to ship that I ordered from Amazon. I ordered them in hopes of not having to run to the store while trying to pack/unpack, but I ended up going to the store and seeing them on the shelf while I waited for them to arrive. I didn’t want to pay twice (as I paid for shipping) and knew I wouldn’t need an extra box. So, definitely buy them for big clean up jobs – when you see them on the shelf!

- 42 Gallon, 3 Mil Heavy Duty Outdoor Trash Bags with 90% Recycled Material – 20 Count – USA Made By Honeydew
My wife makes me take out the garbage twice a week, which is fair seeing that I don’t do much else around the house. But finding a strong garbage bag that doesn’t rip when your taking it from your house the the bin outside is hard to find. I came across these garbage bags while looking for recycled materials, because our family is very environmentally friendly. Great bags, not once have they broken on me and makes my life easier when i don’t have to pick up the garbage after the bag has split.
Garbage bags are essential for your home and they need to be good quality to ensure that they don’t tear or rip while carrying the garbage. The thickness of the bag should be such that it is strong yet it can be recycled easily.
