In 1977 I bought my first house, and promptly went to a local store and bought two Rubbermaid wastebaskets, one for the kitchen and one for the basement. I’ve gotten married, moved, and they followed me through the years to my current kitchen and workshop. The one in the workshop got more abuse and cracked a few years ago. The kitchen trash can is kept under the sink and is dragged in and out of its home 2 or more times a day. Finally, 37 years later (!), the top edge began cracking from being grabbed by the rim many times daily. Needless to say, I wanted another Rubbermaid. I couldn’t find the right size here in town, but this was perfect. It’s exactly the same height and width as the old one, so it fits perfectly under the sink. It seems even more sturdy than the original, and probably costs about the same, which means in 1977 dollars it’s practically free. The color is a little darker than pictured, more like taupe. It’s nice looking. What more could you possibly want from a basic wastebasket?

I just bought the “Rubbermaid Commercial Soft Molded plastic Wastebasket” its only been a few hours but I’m so excited my hands are still shaking.Normally when I go trashcan shopping with my friends we always go for the new trendy cans, you know the ones, with their fancy automatic lids and the little flap things that open with the foot pedal, or sometimes I get a bit crazy and go for the big 55 gallon monsters.Well this time is different, I needed a trashcan that’s a bit more practical and not just going to sit on my coffee table as a conversation piece for my “gay/lesbian/transgender trashcan collectors club” meetings, I have plenty of those. This one is just the right size and is pretty easy to carry, now I won;t get all those crazy stares from people when me and my favorite trashcan want to dress in matching outfits and go out for a nice dinner, try THAT with a 55 gallon can!My cat is also getting a lot more enjoyment out of this can so I went ahead and ordered 17 more so each of my cats can have their own, I might even build some sort of cat fortress out of them, they could really use one because they have been attacked a few times in recent weeks and need a safe place to have their meetings.

I purchased an identical generic wastebasket for 12.99 at Office Max 12 months ago. I only stored paper in the wastebasket- nothing heavy and I was tapping the bottom to empty the Office Max wastebasket and it cracked! So…back to all Rubbermaid products. I paid about 3.00 more but I know that it will last. Some Rubbermaid products that I purchased 20+ years ago for 4.99 are still in use in our household.UPS shipping: Wastebasket was sent without any outside box and it received marks and scratches on it from UPS. After contacting the seller, I received a return call within 10 hours. Joe asked me if I wanted a new wastebasket or a partial refund:) He also said that he would make sure that all future orders of this item would be sent with an outside box. That is all I needed to hear.I removed my initial comments and this is my new review of this item. I would order from them again because they care about their customers and I received an immediate response.

I wanted to improve my trash situation to integrate a better recycling system.I cleared out space in the lower half of a tall kitchen cabinet and bought two Slim Jims, a black one for garbage and the blue one for recycling. Together, they fit perfectly in the space.Lots of thoughtful features: handles, bag vents, slits to anchor bags, etc. Very well designed. And they fit 30 gallon bags perfectly. When you fold the top of that size bag around the top, it’s easy, but hugs so it will stay put. One of my biggest gripes with cans is how often they don’t work with standard bag sizes. These do. They are built to last and solve a common space issue.I also recommend buying the top. It’s a little pricey, but rounds out a great product.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!PS: A couple people here left one star reviews because they felt the ad was misleading. They expected to receive four. I can only guess a former version of Amazon’s page gave that impression, or they both misread it similarly (or they were both from 1 really angry person leaving reviews under different names:)…doesn’t matter. Those ads were about squabbles with Amazon and not about the quality of the item. The product itself is great. So understand you are only getting one for the price and ignore the comments.
Rubbermaid Commercial FG792020BEIG 23-Gallon Untouchable Trash Can with Swing Lid Combo, Rectangular, Beige

These are great trash cans, shipped free and the price was good, and the Sam’s Club large trash liners fit fine.We have used several Rubbermaid trash cans in our office meeting rooms, bathrooms and kitchen. The weighted swing down lids allow someone to drop a papertowel or other light trash without touching the can or lid, and then they swing back closed so you don’t have to look at it.They are not, sadly, indestructible. The janitorial crew managed to break one of the cans (hard to do, but they did it!). Other swing top lids that were designed like a teeter-totter made as a single piece of plastic and the opening was on the left or right. They broke off at the pivot axle or the lids just cracked from being dropped on the floor. These new lids pivot separately with the opening in the middle. On this new can, there are convenient bag holders (visible on the picture) to keep the bag in after it starts filling up.We ordered two of them. Curiously, one was shipped in its original Rubbermaid box, and it had met with package abuse either at the warehouse or by the shipper. Amazon is replacing it with no charge or effort on my part. The other was in the Rubbermaid box and that box was inside a larger box with padding — it arrived with no damage and went right to work.I would buy this product again.Follow up: I wish Rubbermaid was a little less proud of their product. The large (12″ x 12″ approx.) label glued onto the side of the trash can cannot easily be removed. In fact if you try to remove it, it shreds into small strips looking like the wrath of God. So you have to hope the janitor will leave the can with the ugly label towards the wall.

I purchased this for my husband’s office/man cave. The room’s theme is “industrial site” (biohazard shtick, OSHA compliance signs, safety cones, et cetera) and his predominant color is ‘caution’ yellow. Initially, I just needed an inexpensive trash can that would match the garish color scheme, but this bin turned out to be pretty awesome! (It’s also available in less jolting colors like white and grey).–Size? Because this model is identical in style to the giant-sized garage/curbside bins, the online image may briefly fool you. But it’s a 10 gallon container measuring approx 17″ H, 15-1/2″ diameter (top), 12″ diameter (base) w/ 3″ long handles.–Sturdy? Yep! It’s incredibly durable and thick (nearly commercial grade plastic) and can easily be hosed out and routinely abused. A good thing…since my husband has never used a plastic bag liner in his life; moreover, he considers food stuffs, of any type, to be appropriate for disposal alongside paper items and your more benign household debris. This is convenient for indoor use but ruggedly forgives carrot cake smothered fax cover sheets.–Lid? Nope. However, Rubbermaid Commercial Brute coordinating lids (#2610) are available and we bought one…because (see above) Hubby’s trash is our dogs’ 2nd breakfast. I’ll review the lid separately but it fits nicely/tightly; I’d recommend a lid for use outdoors so as to reduce odor and discourage vermin. My indoor pests, which we just shorten to “pets”, are equally stymied.– Appearance? This won’t win any interior design awards but if you’ve read this far, you’re not after frou frou. It’s a nice smooth finish w/o plastic-y frayed bits and has fortifying ridges at the base. The can’s “Brute” moniker is a way too visible for my taste–tho it does accurately describe its owner on his worst days– but we’ve well established my tastes are irrelevant since my husband actually chose ‘toxic waste’ as part of his his design story.–Balanced? Very! Sturdiness is great and all, but bins are still prone to topple if poorly designed. This container, on carpet, can survive the across-the-room-over-the-coffee-table 3-point shot without tumbling over. Ray Allen would approve! Not in any way as disposable in quality as the trash it holds, if this solid, easy-to-care for, and reasonably priced bin can survive my man’s test lab of a man cave, it should last years at your house too. If it was self-emptying, it would be just about perfect. In yellow, at least it’ll get emptied once or twice a decade as it’s real hard to miss!!

- Hinged lid fits snugly and swings back to lock into place
- Imprinted with the universal recycling symbol
- Molded-in axle and inset wheels enhance strength and improve maneuverability
- Compatible with automated and semi-automated lift systems
- Measures 36-1/2″ x 28-1/2″ x 23″
Bought 2 of these cans within two years. Size is perfect for most single-family homes – two of these will hold an enormous amount of trash.Tough plastic body withstands the abuse of automated trash trucks. Lid is pretty lighweight, but secured with a very hefty hinge. Stays flexible in sub-zero temps, so it shouldn’t crack like cheapie lids. Convenience of an attached lid is awesome.Wheels are larger than most consumer models – less pushing effort and it’s easier to roll down steps. I could use even larger wheels, since I push these through heavy snow down a 200′ driveway. Still easier to move than most wheeled cans.I had a problem with one of the cans after about 1 1/2 years of steady use. One of the end caps that secures the wheel to the axle worked it’s way off and disappeared, causing the wheel to fall off. It was repaired easily by installing a washer on the axle and securing the wheel with a small hose clamp. Doesn’t look pretty, but it holds better than the original cap – which was just press-fit onto the axle.A minor annoyance: the wheel wells intrude on the interior of the can. It doesn’t lower capacity that much, but can sometimes make it harder to stuff that last bag in and close the lid.UPDATE: 12/2013Wow, Amazon’s current price on these cans is less than half of what I paid for mine several years back. I’m bumping this up to 5 stars, based on value alone.

This is about the best heavy duty commercial trash can for residential use that I could find. It’s small enough to fit into the space I have in my kitchen and small enough to fit the 33-gallon sized trash bags. The trash cans that I was able to find in the stores were not large enough for me and made of flimsy plastic so this one works great. When I purchased my trash can, I was able to get free shipping so that was a plus for me.

Ok I can never find a can tall enough..this one is. It holds those big 30 gallon or so black trash bags and with all the packaging around everything you buy now.. you need this much trash space. It has a choice of 3 lids.. I got the flip top lid and it is perfect. The trick to getting it off and on it that it has clips on all four sides that grab under the lip to hold everything in place and you can totally hide the bag on the outside with a little finesse of these clips… neat! Next thing is that the whole bag is used.. no left over space if you fill the trash can.. I hate waste. The lid and can are separate purchases so that adds up but go ahead and spend the money….this is the can you have been looking for…trust me…outshines all those stainless steel gadget cans with step lids and all that. This is a seriously great trash can.The lid:Rubbermaid Commercial Executive Series FG267400BLA Slim Jim Trash Can Hinge Lid, Rectangular, 13.5″ Width x 21.88″ Depth x 1.25″ Height

- Sleek design for a professional image.
- 19.5 inches long by 19.5 inches wide by 27.63 inches high. 9.856 pounds. Made in the USA.
Perfect for a restaurant of other commercial uses. Good price and a quick ship. I use this in a millwork, multi-can piece and it has lasted for a while. Don’t worry that its ugly, if you’re planning to fit it in under a cabinet.
If you are of the opinion that trash cans need not be stylish then you are mistaken. A sophisticated office needs a stylish trash can so that the look is complete. However, when purchasing the ideal trash can for your commercial establishment you must pay attention to the type of trash can you purchase as there are some trash cans that are well suited to the kitchens while there are others that suit the office well.
