It is known that compressed air has water and this water or moisture can ruin your machine or pneumatic application. For this reason, it is essential that you have water separators that separate the water generated by the air compressor before the air is passed on to the application.
The degree or amount of water present in the compressed air depends upon the area where the machines are being used. However, even a slight amount of water can damage the components, ingredients or parts of machines where the compressed air is being used. Therefore, using appropriate filters is recommended. You must choose filters that can absorb the moisture from the compressed air when it is passed through the system.
The filters can then be dried or the water separated making it possible to use the filters again. The quality of the filters is of prime importance as low quality filters are known to cause high pressure drop which in turn increases the energy costs.
We have done the research and have prepared a list of the best water separators for air compressors available in the market. These water separators have been reviewed for their quality and price. you can check out the list to find the ideal water separator for your requirement.

Well built and works awesome. I have a 2 stage Craftsman pro 25 gallon upright compressor and moisture has been an issue. I installed the craftsman in line water separator and still problems. I have the w.s. installed low and a 50 ft. 3/8 I.D. hose between it and compressor now and problem solved. The mounting is meant to be in line on metal pipe so there is no mounting hardware. Who cares of it works well.

- Universal 1/4” NPT inlet and outlet design easily connects air line with air tools and spray guns
- Stops water vapor and particles from entering air tools and extends tool life
- Catches water and oil away from spray guns and provides a cleaner painting job
- Impact resistant and transparent polycarbonate housing allows you to monitor buildup and dispose it with the release valve
- Maximum air pressure: 90 psi
I bought this separator to use with a siphon-fed spray gun I purchased. As with any air connection I make I used gas sealant tape (similar to Teflon tape) when i connected this to my sprayer. I do not have any other filter on my compressor line as I do not do much painting with it. This oil and water separator worked flawlessly to trap the moisture coming through the hose which meant I ended up with a flawless paint job. I was also painting on a some what humid day which would leave even more moisture in my compressor tank. This product is inexpensive enough that you could purchase several to install on other tools instead of swapping it out, or you could just install it on the end of your hose. I would not hesitate to purchase again.

The top plate is heavy aluminum while the nipple and center tube are steel and the drain appears to be stainless steel. Keep in mind this type of filter is best used to keep moisture out of your tools, not paint equipment. If I was painting anything critical I would use either an in line or a disposable desiccant filter. That’s not to say that these aren’t good, but that they aren’t as efficient at removing contaminates like oil or silicone (which can destroy a paint job). But for what they are intended and how little they cost they’re great. Two things I would say, make sure to use a wrench when attaching the filter to a tool or attaching anything to the filter (If you tighten it by hand it will be much more likely to leak over time). It doesn’t come with installation instructions so make sure to attach the colored end to the tool with the air flowing from the nipple to the colored end. That will leave the actual seperator in the upper part of the housing and the drain at the bottom.

I got excellent customer service from this seller (PneumaticPlus). They helped me add the additional mist separator and pressure regulator that I needed to go along with this particulate filter for my application (blowing dust off of clean surfaces for a semi-clean manufacturing process).

I use this on my haas CNc machine to keep water out of the machines lines. It works great and automatically drains itself. So plumb it in and forget about it. The air coming the lines and air hose is perfectly dry now.
Some air compressors come with dryers that help keep the moisture generated by the air, at bay. However, you can purchase separate water separators to keep away the water present in the compressed air thereby saving your system as well as the products being manufactured.
