The processes where compressed air is used to manufacture certain items, it is essential to remove the water present in the air naturally. Water from the compressed air needs to be separated and this is achieved by air compressor water separator. If the water from the compressed air is not separated, it will lead to the products being laced with toxins and germs.
It is very essential for many industries to get rid of the moisture present in the compressed air. The new variants of compressors come with the after coolers and water separators but for the older models you will have to use a water separator to remove the water or moisture.
Any moisture present in the compressed air can cause rusting of the equipment, spoilage of the products and domino effects in the subsequent processes of the application.
We have done the research for you and have prepared a list of the best air compressor water separators available in the market. These separators have been reviewed for their type, area of usage, ease of use and maintenance, ease of installation and replacement and price. You can check out the list to find the best water separator for your equipment.

- Removes water vapor at the point of use
- Uses Campbell Hausfeld PA2086 desiccant packs
- 3/8 inch port size
This really works well for a inexpensive unit. If you run your compressor a lot to get the most out of the filter you need about 20 ft of copper before the it so the air can cool and the moisture to form into droplets to be more effectively filtered out. This isn’t designed for a production shop but for a home shop, like mine, it works well. I run a small cabinet sandblaster quite a bit and it will filter out a lot of water.

Seems to work. I runs my tools at a slightly reduced rate. Cfm is restricted, but not to the point that it is bad. Most tools would work just fine. I am guessing 8cfm. It took 145pis with no issues. regulates to 120 max out

I purchased a 40lb blast cabinet from HF and needed a water separator tied in at point-of-use. I went to the local home store and grabbed a few 1/4″ gas line elbows and a few short straights to get this lower then the door. It works great with my 5gal portable Rigid air compressor. Zero leaks at 140 PSI and removes a lot of water. I used Teflon tape on all connections of course.Quality seems nice. Nothing bad to say about this product. My blaster works great after adding this.Much better water removal then the $5 straight line ones you find at home improvement stores. This won’t replace a nice high end filter/separator combo but for point of use and the price, not found better.

- Eliminates water, oil, dust and particles in air line from air compressor
- Universal 1/4” NPT inlet and outlet design easily connects air line with air tools and spray guns
- Stops water vapor and particles from entering air tools and extends tool life
- Catches water and oil away from spray guns and provides a cleaner painting job
- Impact resistant and transparent polycarbonate housing allows you to monitor buildup and dispose it with the release valve
- Maximum air pressure: 90 psi
I have owned other brands and this has surpassed my expectations. It is not uncommon for the plastic on these to crack but this one has held up very well and the construction seems to be superior. I run an oil compressor and this filters out the oil and water very well. It is easy to use and I would recommend it for the home mechanic or the diy. I would imagine that a larger filter is needed for a professional mechanic as this filter can fill up with some extended use. There was no air links when I hooked it up with teflon tape and two air hoses. If you drag your hose a lot I would recommend getting a rubber gasket big enough to fit around the end of the filter to prevent it from dragging on the floor. This can scratch up when dragged on the floor.

I decided to give this filter a try after reading great reviews about the same company’s regulator. I purchased the product with low expectations as the price point was much lower than brand name filters. Much to my surprise, the filter has a solid build. I was able to remove the bowl easily by pushing down the knob and twisting the bowl. Thus far, the filter is functioning perfectly and drain is working properly. Installation is much like other filters I have used — if you have previously installed filters on your air line, this filter should pose no problems. The bracket included with the filter is a plus. I do not use the air line that utilizes this particular filter very often — as such, the manual drain is sufficient. However, they do offer an automatic drain model as well — I will try the automatic drain filter on the next replacement and leave a review.

This filter does the job perfectly if you use it in the correct manner. A lot of people here are just using it wrong.A. This is not a replacement for a larger “main” in-line water/oil separator. IE a 1/2, or 3/8 filter like;http://www.amazon.com/Ingersoll-P39344-600-VS-2-Inch-Filter-Regulator-Piggyback/dp/B0057D8MCI/ref=pd_cp_hi_1This unit is meant to be used at the input end of a paint spray gun, hence the low pressure. It not intended to run at 90+ PSI for something like an impact wrench or air hammer.B. You can’t hang this (or any water separator) right off your compressor and expect it to fill up with water. You need to provide room for the compressed air to condense the water out. IE 30+ feet of hose or pipe. I guarantee you if you don’t see water after heavy use of your compressor move it to the end of a 50 foot hose and you will be draining it like a colonic bag!C. Yes it’s plastic. Would you rather have glass that would explode like a grenade the first time you drop it on the shop floor with it cranked up to 120psi?D. The drain is on the bottom for a reason. See point A, its meant to be used while mounted at the end of a tool like a sprayer that remains upright. Not mounted on a hose that will lay on the floor.I have mine at my spray gun behind 60 feet of plumbing and 2 other larger dedicated 3/8″ water separators and it still collects a lot of water.

I own an auto repair an auto body shop. we paint about 20 cars a week and have had water issues as my doors are usually open in western Pennsylvania with 80% humidity in the summer. I installed two dryers about 100 feet from my compressor (we have two lines that branch off from the main) and things are great. They auto discharge at night when the system is powered down and no water seems to get through. exactly as described.
Having the right air compressor after cooler and water separator is essential to maintain the integrity of your system. The processes requiring dry compressed air will get spoiled if they receive moisture laden air. Eroded lubrication or rusted parts would cause inadequate running of the equipment. There could be cases of incorrect readings, disruptions and failures of plant operations due to the vapor present in compressed air.
You can choose the appropriate air compressor water separator after reading through our expert review. We would love to know about your choice of the water separator. Do write to us about the chosen separator and your experience of using it as well.
